2010 an annus horribilis for the travel industry?

As 2010 draws to a close, a quick review of the past year shows just what a year it has been for the travel industry:

  • Volcanoes in Iceland and closure of European Air Space
  • Riots in Thailand resulting in foreign office warnings
  • BA cabin crew strikes
  • Snow closures of UK airports
  • 22 ATOL protected operators ceased trading
  • Air Passenger Duty increased
  • Airbus A380 engine problems

Record year

Amidst all the problems, though, we're delighted to have had our best ever year. Despite the financial woes, there is obvious optimism in the air - our enquiries are up 50% on last year, and in the first 9 months of the current financial year, our sales too are up - by 40%.

We look forward to arranging many more fantastic school expeditions and family holidays and wish all our clients a very happy and slightly less eventful year of travel in 2011!
