The Specialist Travel Consultancy, an independent travel agency based in Exeter, is today sending seven academics and adventurers from around the world on an exclusive expedition to circumnavigate the remote Taklamakan desert in Western China. The team at Specialist Travel Consultancy (the STC) specialise in organising adventurous family holidays and school expeditions across the globe and have spent two years organising this trip to incorporate a wide variety of incredible experiences.
Adrian Ferraro, who set up the STC in 2006, has drawn on his many years of experience in the travel industry to help the group gain access to notoriously difficult to reach areas of the culturally sensitive province of Xinjiang. Expert multilingual guides and three fully equipped Land Cruisers will transport the group over 5,600 km around the world's 15th largest desert...
The tailor-made expedition includes stunning scenery and many little-visited and out of the way treasures, including ancient cities, caves, crafts and flora on the Northern and Southern Silk Routes. Adrian says "We are delighted to have been asked to organise this trip and really excited to track its progress over the next few weeks. This is certainly one of our more unusual bookings, but what a journey it promises to be? Everyone has their own level of adventure, and the safety of our travellers is paramount whether they are travelling to Europe or the ends of the earth. The group will meet in Urumqi, the capital of Xinjiang on Friday 3rd September and will finish the expedition in the same city, no doubt a little dustier than when they departed, on the 28th September.
